PetFoodRate editorial review

ZIWI Peak is the closest thing to feeding raw without the hassle of raw. The air-drying process at low temperature (under 60 degrees Celsius) preserves nutrients that extrusion destroys, while still eliminating pathogens. The result is a near-raw nutritional profile with the convenience of shelf-stable kibble. At 96 percent whole beef (muscle, organs, bone), this is the purest animal-protein product in our database. The catch: 32 EUR per kilogram. But the daily ration is tiny (130g for a 25 kg dog) because the caloric density is extreme. The real daily cost works out to about 4 EUR, which is expensive but not astronomical compared to premium wet food. ZIWI is from New Zealand, grass-fed, ethically sourced, and one of the very few brands that earns a perfect A on every sub-score in our methodology.

Compared to the competition

Pure Pet Food Chicken Dinner is the UK équivalent concept (air-dried, personalised). Pure scores 89/100 vs ZIWI's 91/100. Pure is cheaper at 14.50 EUR per kg but has only 50% chicken vs ZIWI's 96% beef. Both are excellent, but ZIWI is purer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use ZIWI as a topper instead of full feeding?

Yes, and many owners do. A tablespoon of ZIWI crumbled on top of regular kibble adds flavour and nutrition without the full cost. ZIWI Peak is complété and balanced so it works both ways: as a full meal or as a protein-rich topping.
